New Project Rumors + Bel Ami & Cosmopolis Updates

Today brings another round of "what will Rob star in next." After he was spotted having an apparent business meeting with Sofia Coppola in Hollywood last week, Bleeding Cool speculates on what they could have been discussing. It's a definite MUST READ. Hollywood Life claims they have the scoop. Decide for yourselves.

The buzz surrounding Bel Ami is getting louder as its Berlin world premiere approaches. UK TV show host Jonathan Ross the latest to give Rob praise, after watching the film:

We know Rob, Uma Thurman, and Christina Ricci will be in Berlin, and so will actor James Lance:

James' mother, Catherine Tarrant from Wookey, said: "There are great costumes and he has a large false mustache."
"James has a bedroom scene with Uma when I asked how it went he just said 'fine' – he is ever the gentleman."

We can't wait for that red carpet next Friday, and lucky for us there will be a live stream. And it looks like Rob will not only be in Berlin to premiere Bel Ami, but also in support of Cosmopolis:

Per Variety:

Canadian producers are riding a surge of industry buzz and critical kudos at the European Film Market with hopes that a slate of pics from seasoned Canuck helmers and newcomers will keep the momentum going in 2012.
At the forefront is Telefilm Canada, which brings its sixth edition of Perspective Canada to the mart. The federally operated film funder will showcase a selection of features for the market, including David Cronenberg's "Cosmopolis" and Sarah Polley's "Take This Waltz."
For the films that made the cut, Telefilm has lined up plenty of market fanfare. All the features are backed by a promotional campaign at Berlin that's funded entirely by Telefilm, and each title is screened in the market twice at a discounted rate for the film's rights holder.

Interestingly enough, this poster making the rounds in Berlin has a release date of May 18, 2012. Right around the time Cannes is going strong. We would not be surprised if the film has its premiere there, since director David Cronenberg has mentioned it as a possibility.  A bit more information from Telefilm Canada:

Sales for films still in production are also encouraging. To date, Deepa Mehta’sMidnight’s Children is presold in over 40 countries and counting, and David Cronenberg’s eagerly awaited Cosmopolis is presold in over 25 countries, including Italy and Portugal, and will travel the world.

On the music front, we got an update from the talented folks working with Cronenberg and composer Howard Shore to create the score for Cosmopolis. Read all about it.

In a new interview Juliette Binoche spoke to Le Figaro about working with Cronenberg and Rob.

This is the *rough* translation via Cosmopolis Film:

What do you do in Cosmopolis, the next David Cronenberg (film)?

I make love in the limo! Belonging to Robert Pattinson, a fabulously wealthy man who wants it all and loses it all! It sounds like Cronenberg, doesn’t it? Director of photography, Peter Suschitzky, lights up each shot like a painting. Robert and I were alone in the car with a camera and a microphone, and we could hear David’s voice coming from a distance: we would redo a take, then another one, etc. There was something clinical about it, which for me was a change from Amos Gitai or Abel Ferrara.

Cosmopolis is expected to be released in late 2012.

  1. My bet is on Goldengrove. Sounds like a story/character that Rob would be interested in playing.
